Summary

This is an introductory class for anyone interested in laughing, learning, and letting go! You will learn the fundamentals of improv and walk away with skills that will reduce negativity and encourage wellness in a safe and supportive space. All are welcome!

Description

Improv is quite literally an active meditation, requiring first and foremost a willingness to let go of expectations and observe the moment. Like Yoga and other wellness practices, improv requires presence of mind and awareness of thought. Practicing improv can reduce anxiety, stress, and depression, fighting fear with laughter. In this introductory class students will learn the fundamentals of improv and walk away with skills that mitigate negativity and encourage wellness. Special emphasis will be placed on active listening, staying calm under pressure, and remaining connected after failure. Participants will be able to share their experiences and life challenges in a safe and supportive space, re-frame their interactions in a positive light, and reflect on strategies for healthy living.

Class will be taught by Tavish Forsyth

Tavish is a queer improviser and educator with New England roots. He is the founder of Bird City Improv and an adjunct faculty member at Johns Hopkins University where he teaches applied improvisation through the Center for Leadership Education. Tavish is a trained actor with two degrees in theatre. He has studied at the Baltimore Improv Group, The Powerhouse Theater, and iO Theatre. Through creating an atmosphere of play, Tavish empowers individuals to listen, adapt and respond, to cultivate awareness and connectivity, creating theatre that is silly, patient, and honest.
